Description

A very important section of the Winterthur library is the Decorative Arts Photographic Collection. One photograph is of a handsome sofa covered in black horsehair and outlined in brass nail heads. The sofa has gracefully curved arms, and a high back with a slightly raised central section. Its legs and stretchers are basically rectilinear in shape. The sofa’s form is an unusual but striking mix of both Federal and Chippendale styles. Hickory Chair’s artists found the photograph of the horsehair sofa while searching the Winterthur Library for the best in design. They have enlarged the original dimensions of the antique to create a sofa more suitable for today’s consumers. Close attention to detail and high-quality craftsmanship typify Hickory Chair’s production methods. The resulting furniture will become an important part of today’s living environments that emphasize unparalleled quality and comfort. When ordering this item in leather, please note that pillows are not included and must be purchased separately. To match the standard pillows included with the fabric version, order an additional quantity of pillow SKU HC920-96. The sofa is available in two sizes and has a companion chair.
